Using a non-aggressive approach, this practical handbook offers aradically new system of dog training that truly works."

Dog training is natural and easy if you understand how your dog views his place in the human pack. Your attitude does not lead your dog to think he is the dominant member of the household.

Very informative. I loved the training methods and have adopted these for training my own dog. Some of the discoveries found during the training, I have noticed during training my own dog. I have learned a lot through reading this book and it has encouraged me to seek more knowledge. I am thankful for this learning in such a straightforward and amusing way. It really was fun to read.

This is an interesting and well written book by one of the original dog behaviourists. I would take issue with the subtitle "The natural way to train your dog" The book is about training one dog (and his handler) and I suspect that unless you already have some experience with dogs, it would be difficult to apply the techniques here using only the information that is given in the book. One of the key things, however, that i took from this book is what to do if something isn't working. The seemingly amazing answer is to stop for the day and try again at a later time. That is one of the single most useful and effective strategies I have ever learnt and has saved me more stress and frustration than I can quantify. Buy this book if you want a knowledgeable and thought provoking but somewhat dated read; don't expect to learn everything about training your dog from it, especially if that dog is a puppy.

I read this book a long time ago while studying canine behaviour. I bought this book for a friend who had just got a new GSD and her husband and her had very different views on training he wishing to use more traditional methods and her like me using kind, fair, effective methods. This is great book to read if you wish to train you dog without using punitive measures in anyway and therefore having a more rounded pet that also respects you.RegardsVeronica Gaffney

I am only half way through this book. I have recently taken on an 8 year old Belgian Sheperd. He was a guard dog and quite vicious. Since putting in to practice some of the suggestions from this book, he has turned into a very placid housedog. I have also learned how to read the dog and know what he is thinking and what he means by what he is doing. What an amazing book written by an amazing man, someone who had the insight to treat a dog humanely and see what happened.....A must for any dog owner.

This book is fantastic. John Fisher truly understands what makes a dog tick and how to communicate with dogs.As the owner of a rescued German Shepherd, I could truly identify with this book. But don't just buy it for your GSD, it can be applied to all dogs, no matter how old. You CAN teach an old dog new tricks!IF THERE IS ONE DOG BOOK YOU BUY, MAKE IT THIS ONE!!!

The content of this book is excellent and easy to put into practice. It is an absolute must for anyone with a dog or contemplating buying one. It explains dog behaviour and suggests a logical approach to dog training without mistreating the dog and making it enjoyable for both owner and pet. If theres one dog book your going to buy make it this one.
